Charlie Hancock joins the Optelian team. 

Optelian is delighted to announce that Charlie Hancock has joined the organization as Director of Business Development. Charlie comes to Optelian bringing over 28 years of experience leading sales and technical organizations in the telecom and enterprise networking industry.

Prior to joining Optelian, Hancock was VP-Sales at Redfern Broadband Networks (RBN). He also spearheaded the efforts resulting in the acquisition of RBN. Hancock has also held sales and technical management roles with industry leaders such as Sycamore Networks, Marconi Communications, Accelight Networks and FORE Systems. Charlie has been married to his wife Becky for 20 years and has a 13 year old son. Hancock holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Control Data Institute.

Chris Stone joins the Optelian software team

 Chris Stone has joined the Optelian software team  as Senior Embedded Designer. He has worked within the telecommunications industry working for the likes of MontaVista Solutions, Wind River Systems, and many years as a consultant with assignments within Nortel, Bell Canada, L3 Communications and Canon.

John Spencer to Address Utilities in Utah

The Utilities Telecom Council and the Region 8 officers have invited John Spencer, Business and Technology Strategist for Optelian, to speak at the 2008 Region 8 Fall Meeting which will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 2, 2008 at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center. John is a 35 year veteran of the Telecommunications Industry having worked at BellSouth Science and Technology and Mahi Networks. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Alabama. He serves as Business and Technology Strategist for Optelian.

Bill Meredith joins Optelian International Sales Support Team: Optelian is pleased to announce that Bill Meredith has joined the organization to support International Sales efforts.

Meredith has been involved in telecom for over 15 years. Originally working as a technical writer on the Nortel Passport project, Meredith went onto ATM training and then to Support Engineering on the Fore Systems-Nortel ASX1000 carrier ATM switch. In 1998, Meredith left Nortel and joined Cambrian Systems as a Systems Engineer on the OPTera Metro DWDM platform. When Nortel purchased Cambrian, Meredith continued in his role eventually becoming a product manager for line. Bill joined Innovance Networks in 2001 as a Systems Engineer where he was exposed to full optical switching in ultra long haul networks. After Innovance, Meredith went on to Nakina Systems, a company that develops network management software where Meredith became immersed in the complexities of managing network elements in a multi-vendor environment. At Nakina, Meredith performed a variety of roles including Systems and Sales Engineering, Product Management, and Product Verification.

Optelian currently has offices in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and India and has Distribution Alliances in the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Pacific-Asia regions.

Ellen Warren joins the Optelian Marketing organization.

Optelian is pleased to announce that Ellen Warren has joined the company as Product Line Manager for the LightPRO series of test and measurement equipment.

Warren comes to Optelian with a broad-based background in fiber optics, datacom, switching and satellite from her work at JDS Uniphase, Nortel and TMI Communications. During the telecom downturn in the early 2000’s, Warren co-founded a technology start-up developing a collision warning system for trucking. Through her career, Warren has led both marketing and product line management teams where she has been instrumental in successfully launching new products and building brand value. Warren has a Master of Computing and Information Science degree from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Mount Allison University

OPTELIAN ESTABLISHES KOREAN DISTRIBUTION ALLIANCE
Optical Transport Systems provider Optelian expands into the Korean marketplace.
Seoul, Korea –May 19, 2008 – Optelian, an established provider of optical transport systems, has signed an agreement with Ideal Plan Co., a Seoul-based South Korean company that specializes in distributing high-value products in the optical fiber area of telecommunications. Ideal Plan Co. has supplied optical test and measurement equipment to many of the largest telecom providers in Korea, and is now carrying Optelian’s optical transport equipment. As well as distribution, Ideal Plan Co. is also a value-added reseller through installation and maintenance services.

Ideal Plan Co. will promote Optelian’s LightGAIN systems, the company’s family of optical transport products. LightGAIN is a universal platform with solutions for regional, metro, and access networks. It can be a regional (long-haul) 40+ channel DWDM configuration carrying mixed traffic from 10M to 10Gbps, traversing 1,000 km with multiple add-drop nodes along the way. Or, it can be a simple access oriented 8-channel CWDM solution. In both cases LightGAIN is the most cost effective carrier-grade solution available.

Ideal Plan Co. will also introduce LightPRO, Optelian’s recently introduced line of optical test and turn up equipment.

Bruce Telecom deploys IPTV

Bruce Telecom is the first telephone company in Canada using MPEG-4 technology to deliver digital television (BruceTV). Bruce Telecom is utilizing Optelian’s active, passive and management devices for optical transport in their DWDM rings: LightGAIN RGN-3GSF’s are used for DWDM voice & data OC-48 circuits and LightGAIN RGN-10GXT’s are used for 10GE circuits supporting the transport and distribution of IPTV MPEG-4 signals. John Spencer has been appointed to the Network Technologies Subcommittee of the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) Program Committee. The combined NFOEC and the Optical Fiber Communication (OFC) Conference and Exposition is the premier technical conference in the optical fiber telecommunications industry. He will serve a two year term along with other industry professionals from the service provider, vendor, and research communities.

John is a 35 year veteran of the Telecommunications Industry having worked at BellSouth Science and Technology and Mahi Networks. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Alabama. He serves as Business and Technology Strategist for Optelian.

John Spencer of Optelian Access Networks has been appointed Co-Editor of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Optical Communications Issue of Applications and Practice magazine. The Applications and Practice magazine is a new publication of IEEE ComSoc designed to be a resource to practicing engineers involved in the engineering and planning of optical communications systems. John will serve with Dr. Osman Gebizlioglu of Telcordia Technologies. John is a 35 year veteran of the Telecommunications Industry having worked at BellSouth Science and Technology and Mahi Networks. Optelian announces the addition of Kevin McPoland as NE Customer Advocate. McPoland is a veteran in the Optical Networking industry. He began his career with Western Electric, holding positions in Engineering, Product Management and Sales with what became Lucent Technologies. While there he led Verizon’s initial deployment of DWDM in New York and New England. Before joining Optelian, McPoland was Account Manager with LightRiver Technologies, focusing on optical networking for service providers and utilities in the North East as well as the US Army. He and his wife Lori reside in East Kingston, NH.

John Spencer is a telecom industry veteran with over 34 years experience. Spencer worked 29 years with BellSouth with 14 of those years as a Member of Technical Staff in the Science & Technology department. During that time he had a team lead role for the introduction of DWDM technology in the BellSouth network. He worked 5 years as Regional Director – Product Marketing Engineering for Mahi Networks in Petaluma, CA and as a Consulting Engineer for White Rock Networks. Spencer is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology (BEE) and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Alabama. He is also a Senior Member of the IEEE. John has been married to Kathy for 31 years and has four children.
