David Weymouth, Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Weymouth is the Chief Executive Officer of Optelian, which he co-founded in 2002. He has over 25 years of experience in management and design within the telecommunications industry. Prior to Optelian, he was Director of R&D for the Optical Network Solutions group at Fitel-PMX (acquired by JDS Uniphase) where he led a multi-disciplinary team that designed robust, cost-efficient DWDM systems. Early in his career, Mr. Weymouth was Manager of R&D for Mitel Semiconductor’s hybrid design group after completing his degree in engineering.
Sheldon Walklin, Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Walklin joined Optelian in 2006 where he is now CTO, responsible for technology strategy, product management and marketing. Prior to Optelian, Dr. Walklin held management and senior system design positions at Metconnex, Innovance, Research In Motion and Nortel. In the mid ’90s he pioneered research at TRLabs on advanced modulation formats for high-speed optical transmission. Dr. Walklin studied at the University of Alberta, graduating with a BSc in Electrical Engineering with distinction, and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is a member of the IEEE Communications Society, Photonics Society and CREATE Program Committee for Next Generation Optical Networks.
Bryan Hall, Senior Vice President of Sales
Bryan Hall joined Optelian in 2017 as Senior VP Sales. He holds responsibility for worldwide direct and indirect sales, partnerships, business development and overall commercial execution. Prior to joining Optelian, Mr. Hall held many executive Sales positions at venture backed start-ups and publicly held companies including Axsun Technologies, Mintera, Quantum Photonics, Pirelli Telecom and Hitachi Telecom. He has a strong history of sales leadership and success in building teams, strengthening customer relationships and growing revenue. Mr. Hall holds his B.S. and M.S. from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Brenda Snarr, CPA, CMA
Vice President of Finance & Administration
Ms. Snarr has over 25 years of experience in senior finance and administration positions. Ms. Snarr started her career as Controller at Spar Aerospace. In 1991, she joined the Canadian Intellectual Property Office as Director, Finance and Administration, where she staffed and managed a finance team of 30 people. In 1998 she went to Kanata Hydro as Director, Finance and Corporate Services. Ms. Snarr transitioned back to the high-tech community joining Spotwave Wireless as Controller in 2002, and Xmark Corp. (acquired by Stanley) as Corporate Controller in 2006. In 2007, Ms. Snarr joined the Optelian executive team and currently holds the position of Vice President of Finance & Administration. She is responsible for Financial management and financial and operational reporting, Human Resources, IT, Facilities, Corporate Quality and Legal.
Jim Davidson, Vice President of Research and Development
Mr. Davidson joined Optelian in 2013 where he is now VP R&D. He has over 30 years of experience in the telecom industry managing R&D projects, design services and manufacturing operations. Jim started his career at Bell-Northern Research and Nortel, where he held various technical management positions in their switching division. After Nortel he became General Manager of a startup near Ottawa, developing broadband network test equipment. Before joining Optelian, he held senior management positions in several Ottawa hi-tech companies.
Larry Perron, P. Eng., AVP, International Business Development
With over 25 years of business and technical experience, Mr. Perron has held engineering, business and corporate development positions with small and multinational corporations. In these roles, he has led various mergers and acquisitions and technology partnering initiatives and is now leading the expansion of Optelian’s sales and business development initiative into new markets using an innovative channel to market strategies. Prior to joining Optelian, Mr. Perron was founder and president of Twin Asset Management (management consulting), a partner and senior partner with Skypoint Capital Corporation and Venture Coaches (venture capital), along with holding progressively senior engineering positions at Mitel Semiconductor (now MicroSemi), Toshiba of Canada and Newbridge Networks Corporation (now Alcatel-Lucent). Mr. Perron holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Ottawa Co-operative Program and is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
