Packet Transport Architect OPT 3108111

Optelian is a trusted designer and manufacturer of optical transport systems. The company has been proudly serving some of the world’s largest network operators since 2002. The company’s portfolio of optical solutions enables telecom, multi-service operator (MSO), utility and enterprise customers to expand their fiber capacity so they can increase revenue and cost-effectiveness.

Our product designs must address unique requirements - quite different from the more widely publicized optical transport market.  Some of the challenges involve achieving optical performance while maintaining: very compact packaging, innovative thermal management, simplicity for installation and maintenance, environmental hardening, and low cost.

Role:

You will provide design guidance and leadership for Optelian’s next-generation optical networking products. You have a strong design background in DWDM and packet optical networking platforms, and are very familiar with SONET/SDH, OTN, CESR and P-OTP networking equipment and underlying architectures. You are an expert in Ethernet and MPLS technologies and are intimately familiar with MEF, IETF, ITU and IEEE standards that relate to Carrier Ethernet and Connection Oriented Ethernet, and are highly knowledgeable on Layer 1, 2 and 3 protocols. You are an exceptional team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Key responsibilities:

  • Serve as a systems design prime for new optical packet networking products, and act as a liaison between product managers and hardware, software and mechanical  design disciplines.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with datasheets for complex electrical integrated circuits, including ASSPs and FPGA IP cores.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with numerous standards documents from the ITU, IETF, MEF and IEEE and keep up to date on evolving standards for emerging technologies.
  • Write high-level design documents that map product specifications, device functional capabilities and industry standards requirements into clear architectural design requirements for hardware and software sub-systems.
  • Act as a key reviewer for software and hardware design documents and product verification test plans to ensure products meet the overall design intent.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years design experience in optical communications with a focus on packet transport technologies.
  • Expertise in Ethernet technologies, with good familiarity of the IEEE 802.1 and 802.3 standards suites.
  • Very familiar with MEF, ITU, IETF and IEEE standards that relate to Carrier Ethernet and Connection Oriented Ethernet.
  • Knowledge on CESRs and MPLS/MPLS-TP technologies.
  • Good understanding of DWDM, SONET/SDH, OTN and P-OTP transport platforms.
  • Experience working with FPGAs, ASSPs, CDRs, NPUs and their hardware and software interfaces.
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Minimum of a Bachelors’ degree in Systems, Communications, Optical, or Electrical Engineering
