ROADM & Optical Channel Monitoring

Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers (ROADMs) and Optical Channel Monitors (OCMs) are key building blocks for agile optical networks.

Highlights

  • Edge and multi-degree ROADM applications
  • 100% unrestricted add/drop capability
  • Automatic power balancing
  • Remote optical power monitoring
  • 40 or 80 DWDM channels
  • Mature WSS technology
  • No calibration needed over product life

Optelian's RDM-series ROADM modules allow network operators, working remotely, to quickly reconfigure circuits in DWDM networks. RDMs also attenuate optical power levels to ensure that they remain balanced across all DWDM wavelengths.

OCM-series optical channel monitors continuously monitor the optical power level across wavelengths in a DWDM system, eliminating the need for an Optical Spectrum Analyzer on site. Readings are reported remotely through the LightGAIN ONM-200 network manager.

OCM Readout

With readings from an OCM, an RDM performs automatic, per-channel optical power balancing in real time.

RDM and OCM Models

Both 2-degree and 4-degree RDM modules are available. The 4-degree RDM can be used for 2-degree applications to start with and upgraded in-service to add additional degrees. 4-degree RDMs can be configured for ROADM applications up to 16 degrees.
