Optelian 100G Selected by Pan Dacom for German R&E Network

Ottawa, Canada and Dreieich, Germany — Intuitive Packet Optical Networking™ solutions provider, Optelian, announced that Pan Dacom, one of the leading technology providers in Germany, is deploying the MPX-9110 Flexible 100G Platform in the first phase of connecting research and education campuses throughout Germany. The network will leverage existing fiber infrastructure that was previously transporting 10G traffic to now deliver 100G services.

“When deploying 100G over an existing fiber infrastructure, it is crucial to have a channel plan and performance that are spectrally compatible with the current 10G infrastructure,” stated Yurda Oktay, Head of Business Development at Pan Dacom. “After testing Optelian’s solution against extensive requirements, the MPX-9110 offered the best technical solution to address end user requirements.”

The MPX-9110 Flexible 100G Platform provides comprehensive capabilities to dramatically boost network capacity while reducing cost per bit. The MPX-9110 is being deployed in a muxponder configuration allowing aggregation of ten 10 Gb/s connections over a 100 Gb/s network. Given the variety of traffic that is being transported, a full suite of client interfaces are supported, including Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SDH, and OTN.

“Fiber exhaust is an increasing challenge as more data is being transported over existing fiber networks, especially in research and education applications,” said David Weymouth, CEO of Optelian. “The MPX-9110 100G platform from Optelian increases the bandwidth by as much as 10x without needing to overhaul the fiber infrastructure, greatly reducing network costs while dramatically increasing capacity.”
